Volunteering opportunities in Ipswich and Felixstowe

1 June 2017

Three Suffolk-based supported living schemes for homeless people are looking for new volunteers to step forward and offer up their skills to benefit their residents.

Each placement will be tailored to the volunteer’s skills and what they feel they are able to offer residents, whether that’s providing 1-1 advice about housing, benefits or job hunting, accompanying them to appointments or even going out for a coffee or a walk.

Volunteers can dictate what time and days they are able to commit and the only requirement will be for them to successfully go through a DBS check and basic training prior to starting.

SSL local service manager Emma Warren, who is leading on recruiting volunteers in the area, said: "We are continuously working with our residents to help them develop the skills they need to live independently, so by bringing in volunteers with a range of expertise we hope this will help them even further."

“More often than not people are put off volunteering because they do not have the time owing to work and personal commitments. We hope that by tailoring these volunteering opportunities more people will feel encouraged to get involved and make a difference, no matter how big or small.”
