Coffee and cake for cancer charity at young people's service

14 September 2017

Young people in Shoreham-by-sea are inviting the community in for a Macmillan coffee morning and the chance to learn more about the charity’s work.

The coffee morning will take place on Friday 29 September.

Sanctuary Supported Living’s (SSL) Buckingham Road service, which provides supported housing for young people aged 16 to 25, will be hosting the event from 10am to 1pm on Friday 29 September to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

In addition to sampling a selection of homemade cakes and coffee for a donation, visitors will also be able to view a range of residents’ achievements, as well as artwork by one of the residents.

A number of local partners and other community organisations are expected to attend the event, including local businesses, social services, homelessness prevention teams and local churches.

The coffee morning came at the suggestion of residents, who wanted to organise something that would allow them to further integrate themselves into the community.

SSL acting local service manager Kennedy Appiah said: “Our residents are fantastically community-focused, with several taking part in Princes’ Trust courses and a further two doing brilliant work for a local youth charity.

“Residents play a key role in the development of the service and its activities; they saw this coffee morning as a great chance for them to become even more involved, while offering visitors some delicious homemade cakes in aid of a good cause.”

The event is taking place at: 16 Buckingham Road, Shoreham by Sea, BN43 5UB.
