A Harrow care home for people with learning disabilities has been rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for its low staff turnover and recognition of residents’ faiths.

Sanctuary Supported Living’s (SSL) High Worple service received the rating following an inspection that found residents’ preferences and views were listened to and respected.

Events and catering were tailored to the Asian background of all five residents, with ethnic choices of food available, including chickpea curry, onion salad, lentils and rice, with non-vegetarian meals available and support given for residents to prepare food themselves.

The service also took part in events celebrating both the Hindu faith of its residents, such as Diwali and Janmashtami, as well as those of other religions, such as Easter and Christmas.

Mention was also given to the existence of risk assessments and personal emergency and evacuation plans, as well as access to easy read materials.

One resident told inspectors: “The staff help me when I need help. I go shopping with staff. I can cook different foods.”

SSL area service manager Judy Salami said: “At High Worple, we deliver personalised care and support, tailored to the individual needs of residents.

It’s been rewarding to see that, as well as the importance of client feedback recognised in the CQC report, through things like our Diwali celebrations and catering options.”
