Good CQC rating for 'homely' Eston supported living scheme

A supported housing service in Eston is celebrating a “Good” rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following a recent inspection.

Sanctuary Supported Living’s (SSL) Romanby Crescent, was praised for providing a safe setting and an effective and respectful “person-centred” approach to care.

As part of the inspection, CQC officials visited one resident’s home at the service, describing it as “homely, warm and welcoming” in the report.

The report said: “The person who used the service was relaxed in their own home and had a very good rapport with their support staff.

“The person was always respected by staff and treated with kindness. We saw staff being respectful, considerate and communicating exceptionally well.”

Inspectors spoke to relatives, who felt the service was safe and quick to respond to any requests, while the resident said staff were always on-hand when needed, adding: “I like the staff, they listen to me and that makes me happy.”

The report also noted how staff supported the resident to maintain their independence on a daily basis, as well as to forward plan and achieve personal goals.

Staff were commended for provided clear support plans, which were highly personalised to accurately reflect individual needs and preferences.

Romanby Crescent provides 17 self-contained, single-occupancy flats, each containing a bedroom, kitchen, lounge and bathroom, creating an environment for residents to live as independently as possible.

SSL local services manager, Rebekah McClelland, said: “We’re delighted with the findings of the CQC report and are appreciative of the feedback from the CQC, our residents and those closest to them.

“The rating underlines the good work Sanctuary Supported Living does with its residents in providing them with personalised care and support and helping them develop the skills they need to live independently.”
