25 May 2018

Sanctuary Supported Living (SSL) has secured three shortlistings in one set of national awards for its learning disabilities services.

The national care and supported housing provider has shortlisted entries for the National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards’ Supported Housing Award, Breaking Down Barriers Award and Award for Outstanding Contribution.

Corner House Residential Care Home in Mansfield has been shortlisted for the Breaking Down Barriers Award for its Starlight Course.

The course was set up to help residents understand the issues around dying, so they could make informed decisions about how their affairs should be handled in the event of their passing.

An SSL outreach service in Brighton and Hove was shortlisted for the Supported Housing Award.

The service provides another option to people with learning disabilities, who might otherwise have been referred to residential care, to live independently.

Karen Motley, a project worker from SSL’s Nickleby Road supported housing scheme, in Chelmsford, has also been shortlisted for the Award for Outstanding Contribution.

Karen has worked at the service for 24 years and, in that time, has helped 20 residents move into independent accommodation.

The three services will find out if they are successful at an awards ceremony in Birmingham next month (June).

SSL operations director Sara Keetley said: "Reaching the shortlist alone has already demonstrated these services’ commitment to delivering high-quality, personalised and innovative support and all those involved should be rightly proud of themselves.

I’m delighted with the news and am looking forward to seeing how we perform on the awards night.
