Sanctuary Supported Living’s (SSL) Shaftesbury Court, which provides accommodation and nursing or personal care for up to 18 adults, received an unannounced inspection from the CQC last month.

The service was commended by the CQC for its promotion of independence and inclusion, and its commitment to supporting residents in maintaining their dignity.

Noted in the report was the fact that staff were fully aware of residents’ likes and dislikes, and that residents were well-supported to engage in activities and keep in contact with family and friends.

The report stated: “We received positive feedback from people, their relatives and staff on their experience of the service.”

A staff member said: “I encourage residents to be involved in decisions with their care and health. By supporting residents to improve their health, it gives them the best opportunity to lead the life they want.”

Also highlighted was how staff provided a dignified service to people, offering discreet support as and when required. The report added: “We found staff enthusiastic and keen to provide a good service.”

The long service of staff was also praised for playing a key role in its success as it “enabled strong and well-established working relationships.”

SSL’s local service manager, Rachel Sherriff-Jones, said: “It is really important to us to ensure that residents continue to have a sense of dignity and independence, so we’re thrilled that the CQC complimented us on those areas.

“We are all very pleased with our ‘Good’ rating and look forward to maintaining it at future inspections.”
