Colchester MP Will Quince has paid a visit to a supported housing service for homeless people in the town, as staff and residents laid on an afternoon of fun and games.

Sanctuary Supported Living’s Queen Elizabeth Way hosted the MP, as well as Mayor of Colchester Cllr Peter Chillingworth and a number of visitors for an open day.

Visitors enjoyed a variety of games including hoopla and Connect Four in the lush surroundings of Queen Elizabeth Way’s newly revamped garden, which recently benefited from a £500 grant from local charity Grassroots.

Mr Quince met staff and residents and learned more about the personalised support homeless people referred to the service receive, from help accessing services to developing independent living skills such as managing a tenancy, budgeting, finding work and education or cooking and cleaning.

Residents at Queen Elizabeth Way, in common with all SSL services, receive personalised support tailored to their individual needs.

SSL local service manager Sarah Cole said: “It was wonderful to see so many friendly faces joining us for our open event at Queen Elizabeth Way and we’re grateful to Mr Quince for taking the time out of his busy schedule to join us.

“Both staff and our young residents enjoyed spending time talking with him and we hope he found the visit informative as well as enjoyable.”

Will Quince MP said: “It was a fantastic day and I really enjoyed meeting the residents and staff at Queen Elizabeth Way.
