Volunteering opportunities at Suffolk care services

1 November 2018

Specialist care and support services for people in Suffolk have a number of volunteer positions open for people in the community.

Sanctuary Supported Living (SSL) services in the county have roles at their specialist supported housing and residential nursing homes for young people, people with mental health needs and/or disabilities and homeless people.

The services have volunteering positions which include assisting frontline staff with: general office tasks and administration, support planning, group sessions, befriending activities, working with children or young people and sharing personal skills or interests with others.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own ideas or any relevant experiences in planning activities to the placement.

Applicants will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which will be conducted free of charge.

SSL local service manager Emma Warren said: “These volunteer positions are great opportunities to learn more about work in the care and support sector and provide valuable assistance to people who really need it.

“Needless to say, we would be keen to hear from people with a kind and caring nature and would urge anyone who feels they fit the bill to get in touch.”

One of the Suffolk services – Hilltop House, which works with people with disabilities – has raised £40 in a recent Wear It Pink event for Breast Cancer Now. The service held a quiz, bingo and competitions with a pink theme, with prizes donated from the Bury St Edmunds branch of Tesco Express.
