Old phones needed to help survivors of domestic abuse

10 December 2018

Plymouth and Torbay residents with mobile phones they don’t use anymore are being urged to donate them to support survivors of domestic abuse.

Donated handsets can be handed in to PDAS’ office on Prideaux Court.

Plymouth Domestic Abuse Services (PDAS) and Torbay Domestic Abuse Service (TDAS), which are both run by Sanctuary Supported Living (SSL), are seeking old handsets and new SIM cards.

They will help people who have left everything to escape an abusive relationship by enabling them to reconnect with friends, feel safer and access the internet once they start receiving support.

SSL local service manager Katy Fisher said: “When people escape an abusive relationship – be it partner, family or otherwise – they often have to leave their personal possessions behind.

“Without a phone, this can leave them cut off from the world, so we’d ask anyone with a handset they no longer use to consider donating it and help someone in a difficult situation to get back on their feet.”

Katy Fisher, Local Service Manager

Phones should be restored to factory settings and can be donated to either service.
