‘Good’ CQC rating for caring East Barnet supported living service

15 January 2019

An East Barnet supported housing service has received a ‘Good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for providing a caring and responsive environment where residents are treated with dignity and respect.

Sarnes Court received a 'Good' rating from the CQC.

The CQC conducted an inspection of the care services delivered by Sanctuary Supported Living’s (SSL) Sarnes Court, which provides personalised care to four adults with a variety of needs, alongside a more generalised support service.

One CQC inspector was accompanied by an ‘expert by experience’ – an individual with personal experience of using or caring for somebody using a similar kind of service – during the visit.

The report noted that people enjoyed living at the service and were supported to be as independent as possible and have maximum choice and control of their lives.

Staff were described as “patient, kind and caring” and aware of people’s individual routines, likes and dislikes.

One resident said: “They’re helpful and pleasant. It’s easy to ask for anything.”

Care records are personalised and cover a wide range of needs, with the report noting that residents are involved in planning their own care and encouraged to discuss their views or any issues during regular residents’ meetings.

Residents said they enjoyed the regular activities run by the service, including games, quizzes and special events for occasions such as National Storytelling Week and Chinese New Year.

SSL’s local service manager, Rebecca Awan, said: “We’re very pleased to receive a ‘Good’ rating from the CQC, which is testament to the whole team at Sarnes Court and their dedication to delivering high quality care and supporting residents to live independently and with dignity and respect.

“We are always looking to build on our successes and deliver an even higher quality of care.”
