Jenny's Blog 4: March 2019

25 March 2019

Jenny is a resident at Norman Russell House supported housing service in Milton Keynes. Jenny is writing this blog as a way to share her experience of facing mental ill-health and share her journey with others. Jenny’s blog will talk about her feelings at the time, the support she has received and how she is working to improve her mental health. You can read Jenny's previous blog here.

I am now well into the process of preparing to move on from supported housing and into my own independent accommodation. Now the end of this journey is in sight, I would like to share my plans with you.

I started to plan my move-on in November 2018. With the support of my social worker and staff at Norman Russell House I found a flat, which I viewed in January. I then began the process of doing assessments and was offered the flat at the end of the month. Then came the long process of getting the correct support package agreed, which took another month, where the social care team completed lots of forms, which then went to a panel for approval. I’m hoping to have everything sorted by the end of this month and then move in to my own accommodation in April.

I would like to take this opportunity to say a big THANK YOU to all the staff at Norman Russell House for their fantastic support. I don’t know how I would have got through this process without them. So basically, what I’m trying to say is although the move-on process may take a while, don’t give up and always allow staff to help you. Until my next blog, I hope you stay well.
