Donations appeal for family breakfast club

31 July 2019

Staff at a supported housing service in Hull are calling on local people to support their summer holiday breakfast club for homeless children and their families.

Breakfast donations wanted

Sanctuary Supported Living’s Donnington Court, which provides accommodation and support for homeless and vulnerable families, urgently needs donations of breakfast cereals, fruit, fruit juice, cereal bars and long-life milk.

The children at the service would normally attend the breakfast club at their school during term-time, as their families are homeless and on very low incomes. Staff at Donnington Court wanted the children to receive a balanced and healthy breakfast during the summer holidays, so they set up the breakfast club to ensure that they continue to get the nutrition they need.

Working in partnership with charities The Hull Homeless Community Project and His Church, as well as volunteers from the National Citizen Service and Sanctuary Group, the breakfast club will be held every weekday morning until the new school year starts in September. If staff receive enough donations of food, they are also planning to provide residents with healthy packed lunches for the weekends.

Sarah Marshall, a project worker at Donnington Court, said, “We are very grateful for the support we’ve already received from our partner charities. Without them, we wouldn’t have been able to plan this breakfast club. We’re hoping that local people will be able to support us by donating food, so that we can provide residents and their children with nutritious food throughout the summer.”

The service is also looking for garden toys for children of all ages. If you are able to donate any breakfast food or outdoor toys, please email Donnington.Court@sanctuary-housing.co.uk or call 01482 226 861.
