Double delight for Sanctuary Supported Living awards finalists

3 September 2019

Two Sanctuary Supported Living services have been named as finalists in the Suffolk Care Awards.

Sanctuary residents and staff celebrate award success

Montague Road in Felixstowe, a residential nursing home for people with mental health needs, which recently celebrated receiving an ‘Outstanding’ rating from the Care Quality Commission, has reached the final in the ‘Excellent Support Services’ category of the Suffolk Care Awards.

Support staff at the service – including the laundry, cleaning and maintenance teams – were recognised for going above and beyond to support residents, helping them to manage their mental health needs in a way that made them feel safe and secure. This is the second shortlisting in a row for Montague Road, which was also a finalist at last year’s Suffolk Care Awards, in the food and catering category.

In addition, Hilltop House in Bury St Edmunds, a supported living service for people with physical disabilities, has also been confirmed as a finalist in the ‘Excellent Training Opportunities’ category.

The service was shortlisted for its innovative approach to delivering training opportunities for staff and student placements. This includes staff spending a working day in a wheelchair, to be better able to empathise with the issues faced by their wheelchair-using residents.

Milly Gaskin, nursing home manager at Montague Road, said: “My team and I are delighted to have reached the finals of the Suffolk Care Awards for the second year running. It means a lot for our staff to have their hard work celebrated in this way.”

Emma Warren, local service manager at Hilltop House, added: “We’re thrilled to have been shortlisted at these awards. Our focus is always on ensuring that residents have input, choice and control over every part of the care and support they receive.”

Sara Keetley, Operations Director for Sanctuary Supported Living, said: “I’m so pleased that we’ve had two services shortlisted for the Suffolk Care Awards. It’s important to be recognised in local awards such as these, as community plays a very significant role in our services.”
