It’s a ‘Good’ season for Eastbourne supported service

An Eastbourne supported service is celebrating Christmas early after receiving a CQC ‘Good’ rating.

External of Seaside Care ServicesSeaside Car Services has received a ‘Good’ rating from the CQC.

Sanctuary Supported Living’s Seaside Care Services, which provides care and support for adults with a range of mental health needs and physical disabilities, received the grading following the inspection in late October.

The team were commended for supporting people to have maximum choice and control over their lives, and for treating them with dignity and respect.

For example, the report noted that people were supported to understand what healthy eating meant so they could make informed choices about their diet. One person said: “Staff encourage me to make a variety of dinners, but also respect when I want to have junk food occasionally. They’ve really helped with my independence.”

Highlighted by CQC inspectors was the fact that residents were encouraged to express their views and get involved in decision-making around their care.

A resident commented: “I do what I want to do and when I need any help the staff help me with it,” while another added: “[Staff] respect that it is my flat, they always check before coming in to my personal space. I appreciate that.”

Care plans were all person-centred, with residents being supported to lead full and active lives. The service had also funded a new summerhouse for the communal garden, where residents could socialise with each other.

One staff member said: “It’s all about the people we support, they are the most important thing. [Abiding by] their wishes [as to] how they want us to support them is the only way we are going to get the best working relationship with them.”

Monique de Vos, Sanctuary Supported Living’s local service manager for Seaside Care Services, commented: “I’m really proud of the whole team for our ‘Good’ CQC rating. The report emphasised how we support our residents to be as independent as possible, which is fantastic as this principle underlies everything we do.

“It has given us a great reason to start our Christmas celebrations early.”

I’m really proud of the whole team for our ‘Good’ CQC rating.
