Jimmy Shah, who works at Sanctuary Supported Living’s High Worple, was thrilled to win the Care Home Newcomer category at the London regional finals of the Great British Care Awards.

43-year-old Jimmy arrived in the UK in early 2018, after running his own ice cream business in India. Despite having no formal care experience Jimmy has taken to his role very quickly, offering person-centred care to the residents at the service.

He has also led on a number of projects, such as looking after the service’s medication system, which has been adopted as best practice at other local Sanctuary Supported Living services.

Jimmy said: “It is an absolute privilege to have this opportunity to make a difference to people’s lives.

I feel I have found my true vocation. I’ve built real relationships with our residents and I believe this personal connection is what makes this role so unique.

  • Hilltop House, Bury St Edmunds, won the Personalisation / Putting People First award at the East regional finals.
  • Tracey Godfrey, a project worker at Norton Road in Stockton on Tees, scooped the Housing with Care accolade at the North East awards.
  • Sanctuary Supported Living as an organisation was recognised as the best Care Employer at the West Midlands regional finals.
  • The team from St Bartholomew’s retirement living service in Rye, part of Sanctuary Supported Living’s sister organisation Sanctuary Retirement Living, came top in the Housing with Care category at the South East regional finals.
