Leicester specialist disability care home rated ‘Good’ by CQC
A Leicester care home has started the new year in style by being awarded a ‘Good’ rating by England’s health and social care regulator.
Skelton Court, which is managed by Sanctuary Supported Living, was given the rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in all five areas of inspection – care, safety, leadership, effectiveness and responsiveness.
The service, in Kirby Frith, provides care and support for up to 15 people who have a range of learning disabilities and complex or high needs, including dementia.
Inspectors found that residents were treated with dignity and respect and that their needs were met by staff.
“The staff that are here do a great job,” one resident commented, with another adding that the “staff treat you with respect”.
Skelton Court was also praised for creating a culture that “promoted high-quality, person-centred care”.
According to the CQC, residents were supported “to develop and maintain relationships to avoid social isolation”, while support plans included details of how staff should communicate with residents to mitigate anxiety or distress.
Residents said that they felt safe at Skelton Court and “comprehensive risk assessments were undertaken and regularly reviewed” to ensure the safety of residents.
It was also noted that the service had been awarded a five-star rating by the Food Standards Agency.
Local service manager Nikki Oakley said: “We are all delighted to have received a ‘Good’ rating from the CQC.
“The report recognised the positive approach the staff provide to the residents living at Skelton Court. I’m extremely proud of the team and their dedication to the service.”
