CQC inspectors conducted an unannounced inspection to the care provision of Sanctuary Supported Living’s (SSL) Old Milton Road, which provides personal care for 11 adults with a variety of needs, alongside a more generalised support service.

One CQC inspector was accompanied by an ‘expert by experience’ – an individual with personal experience of using or caring for somebody using a similar kind of service – during the visit.

The report noted that all individuals spoke to felt safe and free from harm, due to the support and understanding from the staff. One resident said: “Just being here in the home makes me feel safe.”

As stated in the report, care plans included bespoke information directing staff on how to manage individual medications.  A resident commented: “I’m not always sure about my medication so the staff do it for me which makes me feel safe.”

Also highlighted was the recording of personal likes and dislikes and details about how people wished to receive care and support, allowing the staff to offer each person a tailored service and support them to make choices about how they spend their time.

One resident commented: “The staff always knock on my door and ask if it’s alright to come in.”

Another added: “The staff are like family.”

SSL’s local service manager, Alison Notman, said: “We are all delighted to receive a ‘Good’ rating from the CQC. It’s testament to the dedication of the whole team at Old Milton Road who work tirelessly to make sure our residents are safe and can make choices about how they live their own lives.

“We are always looking to build on our successes and deliver an even higher quality of care.”
