Plymouth Domestic Abuse Service (PDAS) is appealing to city residents for donations of food and drink for people escaping domestic abuse.
The Sanctuary Supported Living service is encouraging people to donate tinned food, long-life milk, tea, coffee, sugar, juice, pasta, noodles and baby food to its refuge service to help newly arrived residents and their children settle in.
Donations would provide an immediate source of food and drink for new arrivals until their finances and any relevant benefit payments are set up.
Local service manager Katy Fisher said: “Sometimes residents come straight from the hospital, housing or the police station, so literally have the clothes they are wearing and nothing else. It can be late at night too and sometimes after a very long journey.

“There is a local food bank which we do access, but their opening times are limited and don’t always match with the times our clients arrive, so having a stock of supplies built up means we are always able to accommodate new arrivals.”
Donations can be made to the PDAS drop-in office, which is separate to the refuge and located at Prideaux Court, Palace Street, Plymouth PL1 2AY.
The office is open from 8am to 5 pm Monday to Friday and opens late until 8 pm on Wednesdays. It will be accepting donations until 20 October. For more information, contact the refuge on 01752 562286.
