Residents of a Torquay extra care scheme have been getting chatty to raise £100 for the Royal National Institute of Blind people (RNIB) with a coffee and cake morning.
Sanctuary’s Dunboyne Court, on St Marychurch Road, played host to the event, as residents – who had decided they wanted to do something to support the charity – grouped together and raised money over hot drinks and homemade cakes.
Dunboyne Court general assistant Richard Legg prepared a fruit cake for the occasion – using a recipe that found fame as the winning entry to a bake off event hosted at the scheme last year.
Dunboyne Court’s Vanessa Osborne, who organised the activity, said: “We have a number of residents with visual impairments, so the RNIB is a charity very close to our hearts in a lot of ways.
“They do fantastic work to help improve the standards of life for those with visual impairments and our residents wanted to be able to help in some way.”
