Residents from a residential care home in Petersfield had fun in the sun as they held an exciting party to mark a national event.

Staff and residents from Tilmore Gardens, which provides supported housing for people with learning disabilities and is owned and managed by Sanctuary Supported Living (SSL), came together with family and friends to celebrate the end of Learning Disability Week, which ran from 18-24 June.

Attendees were treated to a magic show by Matt Parro, who performed card tricks and other spectacles, as well as a tasty barbecue with chicken, burgers and other fare.

Guests also had the opportunity to pet a range of farm animals brought in by travelling farm Miller’s Ark Animals, including goats, geese, sheep and rabbits.

SSL local service manager Nikki Bedford said: “Everybody had a fantastic time at the party and the event created some wonderful memories for us all to share.

“Learning Disability Week gave us a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of issues around learning disabilities and showcase the positive impact that our staff have on our residents’ lives.”

Learning Disability Week is an annual campaign by Mencap to raise awareness of issues around learning disabilities.
