Government Advice for Social Housing Residents

22 May 2020

The Government has written to social housing tenants to advise them on the latest measures regarding Covid-19.

In an open letter released yesterday, Housing Minister Christopher Pincher MP stated that the ‘safety, security and wellbeing of all social housing residents is a key priority’ for the Government. It provides information on a number of subjects including maintenance and repairs, gas safety checks, building safety, dealing with anti-social behaviour and also advice for any residents looking to move home.

In addition, details about the local council tax support available is included as well as guidance on issues relating to general wellbeing and mental health, and support for victims of domestic abuse. The letter can be read in full on the Government’s website and is also available in large print and accessible formats.

In common with many other social landlords, Sanctuary Supported Living has been operating an ‘emergency-only’ repairs service since lockdown began. We are now reviewing our processes to ensure the safety of our operatives and residents, when undertaking a repair. If you have a repair in or outside your home but it is not an emergency, then please report it to a member of staff at your service so it can be scheduled at a later date when normal services resume.

While we are working quickly to respond to the latest government announcements, we will only carry out repairs when we are sure we have the right guidance, training and protective equipment in place to deliver these within the safe guidelines. We know how important your home and its condition is, so we thank you for your patience and understanding while we have been delivering emergency repairs and finalise our plans.

You can also find up to date information, explaining the changes to our services in response to the Coronavirus on our dedicated web page. We will continue to provide updates on this page as we get closer to resuming normal service. The welfare and safety of residents and staff remains our priority.
