12 March 2021

Local people in Haverhill have benefited from food donations during lockdown, thanks to the generosity of their community.

Sanctuary Supported Living’s Haverhill Homeless Supported Housing service, which offers accommodation and support for adults who would otherwise be homeless or at risk of homelessness in the Haverhill area, have received dozens of donations of food and essentials for the people it’s currently housing.

Through working with the hunger and food waste charity Fareshare and community platform Neighbourly, the supported housing service has received donations from local supermarkets, including Tesco and Lidl. Every donation helps the vulnerable people they support get the food and essentials they need. The partnerships have also helped the supermarkets to reduce their food waste and impact on the environment.

Thanks to the generous donations, Sanctuary Supported Living staff are now able to offer all new residents at the Haverhill service a “welcome” food parcel when they arrive, giving them the essentials they need to help get things back on track. They have also begun offering a “Goodbye and good luck” parcel to everyone who moves on from the service into other more long-term accommodation, and have started offering both parcels to residents at their homeless services for young people in Sudbury.

Our services have been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of local people.

Kate Molope, Local Service Manager

Local Service Manager for Haverhill, Kate Molope, said: “Our services have been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of local people. We’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who donates through Fareshare and Neighbourly, and also to Tesco and Lidl for choosing to donate to the people we support.”
