Felixstowe nursing home marks 25 years of care

7 February 2018

A Felixstowe nursing home celebrated a quarter-century of providing mental health care with an afternoon of food, music and memories.

Staff Val Symons, Pat Hennah and Annie Webb, who have all worked at Montague Road for 25 years.

Sanctuary Supported Living’s (SSL) Montague Road Nursing Home marked its 25th anniversary with a special buffet lunch, entertainment courtesy of keyboard musician Ivan Cole and a jukebox offering a selection of tracks from the fifties, sixties and seventies.

The event also coincided with Dignity Action Day, which celebrates people’s rights to dignity while offering a special occasion for people receiving care.

Celebrations saw the interiors decked out with balloons in SSL colours of purple and magenta as well as photo montages that adorned the walls, illustrating two-and-a-half decades of life at the home.

The event was also a special day for three members of staff – Pat Hennah, Annie Webb and Val Symons – who have worked at the home since it first opened its doors in 1993 and were given VIP status for the day.

Residents at Montague Road receive personalised care, tailored to their individual needs, so they can live as independently as possible.

SSL nursing home manager Milly Gaskin said: “We’re honoured to have played such an important role in our residents’ lives over the years.

"To be going strong after all this time is fantastic testament to the people who have worked here in that time.

“With our birthday also coinciding with Dignity Action Day, it was nice to reflect on 25 years of dignity in care.”

Resident Sylvia Ramsey added: “I have been here a while, getting over losing my parents; being here has helped keep me on the go.”
