‘Good’ CQC rating for London mental health care home

12 July 2018

A residential care home for people with mental health needs in Haringey has been rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for catering to residents’ individual needs and preferences.

Sanctuary Supported Living’s (SSL) Chesterfield Gardens service

CQC inspectors conducted an unannounced inspection to Sanctuary Supported Living’s (SSL) Chesterfield Gardens service, which provides residential care for seven people with mental health needs.

The report found residents were included in choices about what they wanted to eat and nutritional plans, which respected any healthcare needs or cultural requirements.

It also credited staff for treating people as unique individuals with their own needs and preferences, ensuring “no one was disadvantaged because of their age, gender, sexual orientation, disability or culture”.

Inspectors found both residents and staff were involved in choices about how to manage the service, and were able to make suggestions about quality improvements, which were acted on.

Residents at SSL services like Chesterfield Gardens receive personalised care and support, tailored to their individual needs.

One resident said: “The staff are always there when I need to talk and I get good food. I am happy.”

Another added: “They listen to what I say and they look after me.”

SSL local service manager Bisham Pandoo said: “It’s fantastic to see the service rated as ‘Good’ by the CQC; personalised support is crucial to the care we provide and it’s reassuring to see that recognised.
