Funding boost for young parents in Thurrock

2 June 2020

Young parents from a Thurrock supported housing service are benefiting from a funding boost during the current national crisis.

Young residents supported by grant funding

Residents from Sanctuary Supported Living’s Ruth House (Thurrock Teenage Parents Supported Housing) – which supports single young people aged 16 to 25 who are pregnant or have children – used a grant from a local charitable fund to buy toys, role play items and learning resources for their children.

The young people also chose to purchase items to develop their cooking skills, including a food blender and recipe book.

Local Service Manager Keira Harrison said: “We are really thankful for this grant. Our young residents have got so much out of the things we’ve bought – we’ve all particularly enjoyed the garden games in this beautiful sunny weather.

“I’m really proud that even though lockdown has been really tough for everyone, the residents are trying to use this time to develop skills for both themselves and their children.”

The grant for Ruth House came from Essex Community Foundation. Funding for this programme was made available from their donors and the National Emergencies Trust.
