Starts At Home Day 2019 : Darrel and Linda Alexander

Supported housing gave Darrel and Linda Alexander one of the most important things in their lives – each other.

Linda and Darrel Alexander tie the knot

The couple, who both live with learning disabilities, first met in 2013 when they both moved into Sanctuary Supported Living’s Epworth House in Burton on Trent.

Darrel, who is 64 years old, said: “Our rooms were opposite each other and at first we became friends, before becoming a couple and deciding we’d like to get married.”

Staff at Epworth House supported Linda through the legal process of making sure she had the capacity to understand marriage, and the whole team were delighted when the Registry Office gave the pair their blessing to go ahead.

The wedding took place in April 2018 and Darrel and Linda, who is 61 years old, have been happily living together in a shared flat ever since.

The support staff gave to me was amazing and we had the day we’d dreamt of – everyone had a fabulous time.
