Jane Passfield

Jane Passfield - "I can honestly say I love my job; it has been a privilege to work here for 30 years."

Jane is a veteran with Sanctuary, recently celebrating her 30th anniversary of supporting adults with learning disabilities at a New Milton-based service.

Starting back in October 1988 when the service opened under a different provider, Jane began her role as a part-time support worker but has now progressed to Deputy Manager.

Her job sees her help the residents in her care to gain and maintain their independence, and it means a lot to Jane to see them achieve this.

"One gentleman who has also been here for 30 years started off in our shared house and later moved to one of our flats with his friends. I’ll never forget the excitement of the move day, and how well they all did. We have also had a couple who got married at the flats, which was really moving to see"

Jane’s interest in supporting people with disabilities was apparent early on in her life. She explained: “I was still a teenager when I attended work experience at a local school for young people with learning disabilities.

“I soon realised how rewarding it was, and this really laid the foundation for my future career.”

While working at the New Milton service, Jane has achieved her NVQ Level 3 qualification and has also completed management development training, as well as spending time as a manual handling trainer. She is also the local representative in her area for Sanctuary’s Staff Council, in which she facilitates communication between staff and management.

Jane said: “I can honestly say I love my job. It has been a privilege to work here for 30 years and see how much all the residents, past and present, have achieved.

“I work with a great team who make an amazing effort to provide our residents with the best support possible."
