Merrick House has 12 bedrooms in a shared house. We provide support for adults aged 18 and over, who have been homeless and rough sleeping in Eastbourne and Hastings.

Support planning

Staff draw up a personalised support plan with residents using the Homelessness Star model. Support is providing in partnership with a multidisciplinary team, including a social worker, a mental health nurse, a substance misuse nurse and a housing specialist.

Staff availability

Our highly-trained staff are on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week, giving residents peace of mind that support is always on-hand. There is an overnight concierge service seven days a week and an out-of-hours telephone service, should residents require any further support.

  • Cooking, cleaning and shopping
  • Building positive relationships
  • Managing mental health needs
  • Substance misuse management
  • Dealing with correspondence
  • Maintaining health, safety and security
  • Signposting and accessing other services
  • Planning a successful move-on


To be eligible for a place at Merrick House, applicants must:

  • Be aged 18 or over
  • Be homeless and rough sleeping in Eastbourne or Hastings

Expectations and participation

We expect all residents to actively participate in addressing any issues or barriers that may be stopping them from sustaining long term accommodation placements.

How to apply

All referrals are processed by the Rough Sleepers Initiative Housing Specialist and the housing options teams at Eastbourne Borough Council and Hastings Borough Council. All support needs will be assessed before an application is accepted.
