Learning Disability Week

Learning Disability Week raises awareness of issues important to people with learning disabilities. In 2019, the annual campaign, led by Mencap ran from Monday 17 to Sunday 23 June with the theme of sport and inclusion.

Sport and physical activity can boost health and wellbeing and reduce loneliness and isolation for people with and without learning disabilities. To challenge negative views towards people with a learning disability, Mencap are encouraging as many people as possible to get involved with inclusive sporting activities in their local communities.

Learning Disability Week 2019

During the week, we shared some stories from Sanctuary Supported Living residents who do not let their learning disability stop them from participating in physical activity, and highlight the benefits they have experienced through sports. Learning disabilities are not barriers to an active, fulfilling and independent life.
