Safer Recruitment for Ofsted Registered Services

At Sanctuary Supported Living, our teams are at the heart of everything we do. We're dedicated to supporting young people, helping them focus on their strengths, and building positive support networks. Our project working roles are incredibly rewarding, as you'll help young people achieve their goals and aspirations - whether it's returning to education, finding meaningful work, or making new friendships.

Your support will empower them to gain essential life skills, making their transition to adulthood that little bit smoother. Our management positions are equally important, ensuring our services run smoothly and adhere to the highest safeguarding standards.

No matter the role, Safer Recruitment is an important part of our promise to keep children safe. When hiring people to work with children, we make sure to choose only those who are right for the job by:

  • Attracting the best possible applicants to vacancies
  • Deterring prospective applicants who are unsuitable for working with vulnerable young people and adults
  • Identifying and rejecting applicants who are unsuitable for working with vulnerable young people and adults

We use a values-based approach to recruitment. This means we look at what candidates believe, how they behave, and their attitudes. This helps us ensure they are the right fit for the job.

Recruitment Process

In our mission to support young people in achieving their independence, we need the best teams to make it happen. Our recruitment process is designed to be thorough and fair. Keep reading to see what you can expect when you apply.

Get your application ready

Be sure to highlight your experience and values when filling out your application form (PDF 159KB). We're excited to learn about what you can bring to our team!

Initial screening

We carefully review applications to ensure candidates meet our criteria. We're looking for people who share our commitment to safeguarding and making a difference.

Interviews

Shortlisted candidates are invited for face-to-face interviews. We want to get to know you better - your experience, motivations, and what makes you unique. Don't worry, our interviews are friendly and welcoming. Plus, at least one person involved in the interview process has completed safer recruitment training, so you can be sure we're clued up on what matters most.

Background checks

We conduct detailed background checks, including a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate, references, and employment history verification. This helps us ensure the safety and suitability of our staff.

Final selection

We'll let you know, by phone then followed up with an email, if you're selected and we’d like to offer you a job. We can’t wait to welcome you and look forward to all the positive impact we'll make together!

Employment checks

All job offers depend on passing these checks:

  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate
  • References
  • Complete employment history check
  • Identity check
  • Right to work check

References

We gather detailed references from different sources. You can't start work until we have satisfactory references and DBS checks. Sometimes, a risk assessment lets you start work before we get all references.

Rehabilitation of Offenders Act

This act doesn't apply to jobs with vulnerable young people. You must tell us about all convictions and cautions, even if they are 'spent'.

International Checks

If you lived outside the UK for three months or more in the past five years, you must provide a criminal record check from that country.

Recruitment of Ex-Offenders Policy

We are committed to the fair treatment of all applicants, including those with a criminal record, in line with our Recruitment of Ex-Offenders Policy (PDF 14KB).
