Masked revellers have helped to raise much-needed funds for a domestic abuse service based in Torbay.

Sanctuary Supported Living’s Torbay Domestic Abuse Service (TDAS) recently hosted a masquerade ball at The Berry Head Hotel in Brixham, in support of its vital work providing help to individuals and families in the Torbay area, which includes confidential advice, one-to-one and group support sessions, and safe refuge houses.

The black-tie charity event was attended by partners at Torbay Council, and other agencies like local drug, alcohol, and homelessness services. Also in attendance were Paignton Lions Club, the Women’s Institute, and friends and staff of the domestic abuse service. Guests enjoyed a drinks reception, three-course dinner, and disco as part of the evening.

Thanks to ticket sales, an auction, and raffle, some £1,500 was raised to support TDAS’s work in empowering victims and survivors of domestic abuse.

"The aim of hosting a masquerade ball was to support our crucial work in unmasking domestic abuse"

Claudia O’Neill, Local Service Manager at TDAS

Claudia O’Neill, Local Service Manager at TDAS, said: “Underneath all the glitz and the glamour, the aim of hosting a masquerade ball was to support our crucial work in unmasking domestic abuse, whilst raising awareness of our services in Torbay.

“We timed it to coincide with 16 Days of Activism, an international campaign to challenge gender-based violence which runs from 25 November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day).

“We’re thrilled that we raised so much money, which will go directly to support our customers affected by domestic abuse.

“It was a really fun evening and we enjoyed spending time with our partner agencies, other community organisations and groups of friends.”

If you’d like to support the work TDAS does with all survivors of domestic abuse within Torbay, please consider purchasing a gift from their Amazon Christmas wish list and help to make the season sparkle that little bit brighter for those who need it the most.
