Sanctuary Supported Living’s Plymouth Domestic Abuse Services (PDAS) and Torbay Domestic Abuse Services (TDAS) are proud to support this year’s 16 Days of Activism campaign, which kicks off with White Ribbon Day. Both campaigns are dedicated to ending gender-based violence and building safer, more respectful communities which Sanctuary is proud to support.

16 Days of Activism is an annual international campaign which challenges violence against women and girls. It runs from 25 November (White Ribbon Day and The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day).

As a housing provider, we recognise our unique responsibility to support our customers and colleagues affected by domestic abuse. We do this by supporting our colleagues to identify when abusive behaviour may be occurring and by working collaboratively with local services to break the cycle of violence.

To mark the campaign our colleagues are wearing it white and purple on Tuesday 25 November to show their support. Income Officers, Housing Officers and Customer Support colleagues are attending workshops and webinars during the 16 days to help them learn how to identify patterns of physical violence, as well as controlling, coercive, and threatening behaviour, which may show up in rent arrears or antisocial behaviour.

By raising awareness across Sanctuary Group, we can create communities where everyone feels safe and respected. Domestic abuse is a serious and widespread issue that can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or background.

PDAS and TDAS, provide trauma-informed, non-judgemental support, advice and protection for individuals and families who have experienced, or who are currently experiencing, domestic abuse. This includes emergency accommodation, outreach support, and tailored programs.

Kind and dedicated staff aim to empower people to recognise all forms of domestic abuse and help them to rebuild their lives free from violence and coercion. Throughout the 16 Days of Activism, the PDAS and TDAS teams are aiming to raise awareness of domestic abuse and the support both services provide.

To further support those in need, PDAS and TDAS have created Amazon wish lists with gifts, filled with gifts, festive treats, and essential items for families affected by domestic abuse, including children who deserve a smile this season. If you’d like to support them, please visit their wish lists:
