Dan Hendrie

Dan’s role as Senior Care and Support Worker is more than just a job to him; he works hard to support the young adults with learning disabilities that he works with.

Based at Corner House in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, Dan has worked for Sanctuary Supported Living since 2012, and during that time has learned a huge amount about caring for others. He said: “Although Corner House is my place of work, it’s really important to remember that it’s where our residents call home.

Dan is part of a team that has twice been nominated for a national learning disability award, winning once.

He credits his colleagues with playing a key role in the service’s success, commenting: “It’s the team that makes it. We know we can all pull together to make life the best it can possibly be for the residents in our care.”

My role doesn’t just involve providing the personal care they need, but also supporting them to make choices about how they live their lives, whether that’s socialising, going into training or learning new skills.

He’s also been involved in some activities at Corner House that are a bit out of the ordinary. He explained: “I’ve supported our residents to have lots of new life experiences, from camping for the first time to flying in a helicopter! “They were all fantastic times, but the best part of my job really is supporting people to increase their confidence and self-esteem.
