A group of staff from Sanctuary Supported Living have been putting their best foot forward to raise money for FareShare, the UK’s largest charity fighting hunger and food waste.

The Business Support team, which has staff working across various locations in England, including at Sanctuary’s head office in Worcester, has been taking part in the “FareShare 500” virtual challenge, which involves each person completing a walk, jog, run or cycle in their local area. Between them, they’ve taken part in over 500 minutes of activity and covered locations spanning over 500 miles in distance.

While each member of the team took part in the activities individually or in small groups, their combined efforts were connected through passing on a virtual baton, through photos and videos.

With support from their colleagues, family and friends, the team hopes to raise £500 for FareShare, which is Sanctuary’s chosen ‘Charity of the Year’ for 2023, and they have set up a JustGiving page where people can donate to support their efforts.

FareShare redistributes surplus food to charities and community groups that support people facing hunger, such as homeless shelters, food banks and breakfast clubs. All funds raised for FareShare by Sanctuary staff will also be matched by Sanctuary, taking the potential total raised up to £1,000.

"My team and I were very excited to take on this challenge and support such a worthy cause."
