Volunteers from McCain Retail joined residents and colleagues at Jazz Court
Residents at a Scarborough retirement community are enjoying revitalised outdoor spaces after a team from one of the region's largest food manufacturers volunteered their time to help transform the communal gardens.
14 members of the McCain Retail team spent the day at Sanctuary Supported Living’s Jazz Court painting fencing, removing weeds, trimming hedges and carrying out general maintenance work, helping to create a more welcoming environment for residents to enjoy throughout the summer.
The volunteering initiative highlights the value of local organisations working together to enhance the lives of older people. Jazz Court, which provides apartments and communal facilities for people aged 55 and over, plays an important role in helping residents maintain their independence while remaining connected to their community.
By investing time and skills into improving the outdoor areas, the McCain team has helped create spaces that support wellbeing, social interaction and enjoyment for residents. Retirement Communities Manager, Liz Jones, said: “We're incredibly grateful to the McCain team for giving up their time to support us. Our gardens have really benefited from some much-needed TLC.
"Days like this remind us how much can be achieved when local organisations invest their time in local people."
“It was especially rewarding to see conversations spark between volunteers and residents throughout the day, with people taking the time to get to know one another and share their experiences.
“There was a real buzz around Jazz Court, and the sense of connection between residents and volunteers was just as valuable as the hands-on improvements that have been made.
"Days like this remind us how much can be achieved when local organisations invest their time in local people. By working together, we can help tackle social isolation, build meaningful relationships and create opportunities for older people to stay connected, active and engaged.”
