Sanctuary Supported Living
Each year, Sanctuary Supported Living’s Ready Steady Grow competition, run by Sanctuary’s Resident Engagement Team, continues to attract high calibre entries and this year was no exception.
The theme for 2023 was ‘How Does Your Garden Grow?’ and all supported living services and retirement communities were eligible for the competition, which challenged residents to transform their gardens, window boxes, tubs, baskets, borders, and vegetable patches.
A vigorous interest in gardening, which has reaped plenty of mental and physical health benefits, was reflected in the diversity of entries - totting up to more than ever before for this year’s contest.
Competition was tough, but by public vote, winners of the Ready Steady Grow gardening event have now been revealed.
Congratulations to Thurrock Teenage Parents Supported Housing at Ruth House who secured first place with ‘Best garden or space’, and winning a £250 B&Q gift card. With the help of funding, staff, residents, and their children aimed to make their garden more resourceful with a bug area, vegetable patch, and fairy garden.
An impressive submission from the residents at Ramsgate Road in Kent has been announced as runner up in the competition and awarded a £100 gift card.
"A huge thank you to all the services that entered the competition, and for the hard work of all the residents who put their heart and soul into transforming their outdoor spaces."
Resident Engagement Officer, Sue Nutter, said: “We are delighted to announce that residents at Ruth House have won the competition with a whopping 315 public votes, closely followed by Ramsgate Road with 298 votes.
“We want to say a huge thank you to all the services that entered the competition, and for the hard work of all the residents who put their heart and soul into transforming their outdoor spaces - there were some amazing entries! Another big thank you to all those who voted for their favourite garden. Winners will be receiving their trophy, prize, and certificate in due course.”
