Sanctuary Supported Living
Lindsey with Emma, Specialist Project worker at Halton Road
This year on Starts at Home Day, we’re highlighting the incredible difference supported housing makes in people’s lives – and Lindsey’s story is a fantastic example of what’s possible when people have the right support.
Lindsey has achieved something truly inspiring: she’s been nominated for a Long Service Volunteer Award at the Volunteer Awards 2025! For an amazing 14 years, Lindsey has volunteered at a playgroup in Runcorn. And her support doesn’t stop there – she also supports other community projects, including a walking group for Mencap.
Her dedication and passion for helping others have made her a valued member of the community and an inspiration to anyone thinking about volunteering. “I am happy, and I can’t believe it really,” says Lindsey.
How Supported Housing Made It Possible
Lindsey’s journey started when she moved into Sanctuary Supported Living’s Halton Road. Before that, she lived with her dad, who reached out to us to find out what support we could offer. A member of our team visited their home to find out what support Lindsey needed, and soon after Lindsey moved in!
“Since living at Halton Road and receiving support from Sanctuary Supported Living, I’ve become more confident and independent in accessing support within my community – and I was able to keep my volunteering job!"
Since then, the team have supported Lindsey with her weekly food shop, managing finances, attending medical appointments, and accessing places of interest and a variety of skills to help her to live as independently as possible. Most importantly, they helped her achieve her biggest goal: continuing her volunteer work at the local nursery.
“Since living at Halton Road and receiving support from Sanctuary Supported Living, I’ve become more confident and independent in accessing support within my community – and I was able to keep my volunteering job! I feel happy and content within myself. I’m very pleased and grateful for the support I’ve received.”
Why This Matters on Starts at Home Day
Starts at Home Day celebrates the difference supported housing makes – and Lindsey’s story says it all. Having a safe, supportive home has given her the confidence and stability to thrive, contribute to her community, and inspire others.
Supported housing isn’t just about having a roof over your head – it’s about creating opportunities for independence, purpose, and connection. Lindsey’s journey shows why it’s so important to protect and invest in these vital services.
