19th October 2026

A man with glasses and a beard stands with his arms crossed, wearing a blue shirt with white stripes. A black geometric tattoo is visible on one forearm. He has a serious expression on his face. In the background, there is a poster on the wall that reads "CHANCES OF SUCCESS," and a window showing a glimpse of greenery outside.

Jason, whose supported housing journey has helped him take positive steps towards greater independence.

How supported housing helped Jason find his voice

After Jason was referred to Sanctuary Supported Living’s Tring Road, a supported housing service in Aylesbury, he arrived looking for the stability and support he needed to rebuild his life.

Following a period of housing instability, the loss of his grandfather and the breakdown of a significant relationship, Jason had experienced considerable upheaval that affected his confidence, wellbeing and overall sense of direction.

Tring Road provides accommodation alongside practical and personalised support to help people address immediate challenges, prevent further crises and take steps towards breaking the cycle of homelessness.

At the time, Jason needed help across a range of areas, including managing his finances, understanding tenancy responsibilities and preparing for the longer-term of living independently.

Working closely with the team, Jason began setting goals and building the skills and confidence needed to achieve them. He received support with budgeting, managing rent payments, accessing benefits, registering for housing through Bucks Home Choice, and developing routines that would help him maintain his independence in the future.

But becoming more independent was not only about managing the practicalities of everyday life. As Jason became more settled and his confidence began to grow, he started to think about what mattered to him personally and what he wanted his life to look like beyond Tring Road.

With encouragement from his Project Worker, Sagar, he found the space and support to channel his experiences into songwriting, using creativity as both an outlet and a source of motivation.

What began as a personal passion became an important part of Jason's recovery journey. Through writing, producing and releasing his own music, he discovered a renewed sense of purpose, achievement and self-belief, while sharing messages that encouraged others to talk openly about their own experiences.

Describing the difference the service has made, Jason said: "When I first came to Tring Road, I was completely broken. I had lost my home, my confidence and my sense of direction.

"The difference between who I was when I arrived and who I am now is a complete 180. Supported housing has helped me put my life back together, and I wouldn't be where I am today without the people who believed in me, especially Sagar, who has supported me in every way possible."

“Music has played a huge part in my recovery. Releasing my own songs on Spotify and YouTube gave me a sense of pride I've never felt before. I want people to know that it's okay not to be okay and that talking about how you're feeling can make a difference.”

While Jason knows his recovery journey is ongoing, he feels optimistic about what comes next and confident in his ability to live independently, with a home of his own firmly in sight.
