A registered manager at a learning disability service in North London has landed a regional award after being nominated by her senior management team for motivating staff to consistently strive for excellence.
Lindi Urubusi, Local Service Manager for Sanctuary Supported Living’s Compton Road, won the Care Home Registered Manager award for the London region at The Great British Care Awards on Saturday 19 November. Compton Road is CQC rated ‘Good’ and provides registered personal care and support for adults with a range of learning disabilities. The award sought to honour the Care Home Registered Manager who has demonstrated a high level of expertise, together with exceptional skills in managing the complex business of running a care home.
Lindi was recognised for leading by example to promote a personalised approach to care. She demonstrated this throughout the pandemic, for instance, when she completed a 5-day pictorial vaccine diary of her own experience to alleviate a resident’s anxiety on having the vaccine. The resident, who has learning disabilities, felt reassured by Lindi’s actions and received the vaccine shortly after. The diary was shared with North Central London commissioners and featured in the Haringey Times magazine to reassure other people in the local community.
The Great British Care Awards regional final was presented by famous compère Steve Walls at the London Hilton Bankside Hotel and attended by over 500 finalists in 24 categories which paid tribute to the best of the best of London’s social care professionals.

Winners of the regional awards will compete in the national awards, which will be held in early 2023.
