A care and support worker based at a supported living service in Ipswich has been recognised at a national industry awards event for her outstanding support.

Lynn Clarke, who works at Sanctuary Supported Living’s Sidegate Lane, was honoured at the National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards, held on Friday 19 June at the ICC in Birmingham. The ceremony took place on the final day of Learning Disability Week, an annual campaign led by Mencap to raise awareness and celebrate the achievements of people with learning disabilities.

I’m really proud, but this award also reflects the support of my colleagues, who are always there for each other

During the ceremony, Lynn was named winner of the Support Worker Award in the not‑for‑profit category. Judges praised the way she went above and beyond to support a resident with learning disabilities during cancer treatment, providing practical help and reassurance during a very difficult time. Research from Mencap shows that nearly one third of people with learning disabilities experience mental health challenges, with many also facing loneliness and isolation.

Speaking about her win, Lynn said: “I was completely shocked to hear my name announced. I’m really proud, but this award also reflects the support of my colleagues, who are always there for each other and for the people we support. It means a lot to be recognised as part of such a caring team.”

Dave Shaw, Director for Sanctuary Supported Living, added: “This award recognises an exceptional colleague whose compassion, dedication and commitment have made a meaningful difference. Going above and beyond every day, Lynn has shown what outstanding support looks like in practice, ensuring the person they supported felt safe, valued and never alone during an incredibly difficult time. We are immensely proud to see her work recognised at a national level.”
