Sanctuary Supported Living
A new Budgens convenience store has officially opened at Sanctuary Supported Living’s Jazz Court, retirement community on Ashmead Square in Eastfield.
The retail unit, which had stood empty for 11 years, has now been transformed into a vibrant local shop serving both residents and the local community.
The store was formally opened with an official ribbon cutting ceremony where residents and store staff joined Budgens Store Manager, Vijay Sellapan and Jazz Court Retirement Community Manager, Liz Jones.
“It will make a huge difference to me. I still like to cook, and now I can decide what I want and go and buy my own ingredients.”
Its location within the retirement community is expected to support greater independence for residents. Jazz Court resident, Dorren Smith, shared her enthusiasm: “It will make a huge difference to me. I still like to cook, and now I can decide what I want and go and buy my own ingredients.”
The community has long expressed a desire for a shop, and to fill the empty retail space. Early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with its central location, right on people’s doorsteps. The new Budgens offers a wide range of everyday essentials, along with lottery services, newspapers, PayPoint facilities and parcel drop-off options.
Store manager Vijay Sellapan said: “I’m delighted to serve this community where our new store aims to offer convenience to Jazz Court residents as well as parents and families during school drop-off and pick-up times at Overdale PC School. I hope it is a welcome addition for everyone in Eastfield.”
Jazz Court offers apartments for people aged over 55, or those with long-term care needs. It has onsite support and amenities, including a restaurant open to the public.
