A not-for-profit provider which delivers life changing support, housing, and assistive technology has been shortlisted in no fewer than three categories in a national industry awards final.

Sanctuary Supported Living, which provides accommodation, care, and support in over 650 services – including for people with physical and learning disabilities – is in the running for three National Learning Disability and Autism Awards, which offers a unique opportunity to celebrate the successes of individuals, teams and businesses who are making a positive impact on people’s lives throughout the UK.

The Supported Housing Award – Oak Lodge Newly redeveloped Oak Lodge, which provides temporary, move-on accommodation and support for adults with a range of learning disabilities in Attleborough, has been shortlisted in The Supported Housing Award which seeks to celebrate innovative approaches and good practice to deliver a range of housing options. Within just two weeks of opening in late 2022, Oak Lodge had already welcomed five people into their new homes and who were evidencing positive outcomes. They’d quickly started to benefit from enriching self-development by making friends, and learning to cook healthy, hearty food with support from technology and staff.

The Making a Difference Award – The team at Station Mews Staff at Station Mews, which provides long-term supported housing with care in Telford, have made finalists for The Making a Difference Award for their work in creatively and passionately addressing any imposed barriers of access and lack of opportunities in the community, and encouraging residents to live full and purposeful lives. The team was nominated in recognition of their approach to supporting 71-year-old Jeremy into a volunteering role at the neighborhood Food Share Project.

"I’m hopeful that our award nominees - which includes both staff and customers - achieve the recognition they all deserve at the awards ceremony."

The People’s Award – Steven Sharp, resident at Cleves Road

Steven, who has received support at Cleves Road learning disability service for six years, is contending for The People’s Award in recognition of progress with his personal development. Since living in supported housing, he’s grown from strength to strength, learning essential life skills and how to manage his own tenancy. As a result, his independence has blossomed and he’s fulfilling his ambitions – like being a DJ! When the team discovered he had a passion and a gift for music, they encouraged him to develop his interest and his first official DJ booking was for a local World’s Down Syndrome Day event in 2022.

Operations Director for Sanctuary Supported Living, Dave Shaw, said: “We’re tremendously proud of our colleagues for their dedication, kindness, and expertise, which together has made a significant improvement to the quality of life for people with learning disabilities. I’m hopeful that our award nominees - which includes both staff and customers - achieve the recognition they all deserve at the awards ceremony.”

The virtual judging of The Learning Disability and Autism Awards is due the second week in June, with the overall winners being announced at a celebratory gala event at the ICC in Birmingham on Friday 30 June.
