Sanctuary Supported Living
Sophie and Catherine marking the opening of Blackberry Court retirement community
Sanctuary Supported Living is delighted to share that Blackberry Court, a brand-new retirement community in Streethay near Lichfield, has opened its doors for the first time and recently held a special event to welcome residents. The development offers high-quality retirement living for people aged 55 and over, with a focus on comfort, independence, and community. The development brings 138 new homes to the area. Blackberry Court features 78 stylish one- and two-bedroom rental apartments, and a wealth of on-site amenities. These include a gym, communal lounge, hair salon, and beautifully landscaped gardens. The retirement community is set within The Maples, a retirement village that also includes 60 one-and two-bedroom bungalows, with a mix of rental and shared ownership, creating a truly connected and flourishing community.
At the heart of the Blackberry Court community is 1085 restaurant, a vibrant new dining destination, serving bistro-style freshly prepared meals. The name pays tribute to the year construction began on the iconic Lichfield Cathedral.
To celebrate opening the doors of the retirement community, Blackberry Court residents were treated to a delicious taster lunch prepared by the 1085 restaurant team, sampling dishes from across the breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus. Open to both residents and the public, 1085 is quickly becoming a vibrant social hub within the local area.
“It's heaven here. It's my forever home, and I feel safe and supported, but I’m still able to carry on doing all the things I always have.”
The first resident to move in, Catherine , was also presented with flowers and a special gift to mark the occasion. Catherine shared: “It's heaven here. It's my forever home, and I feel safe and supported, but I’m still able to carry on doing all the things I always have.”
Sophie Jones, Blackberry Court’s Retirement Communities Manager, said: “We’re thrilled to be opening our doors and welcoming the first residents to Blackberry Court. This community has been thoughtfully designed to offer not just a home, but a lifestyle, where people can feel safe, supported, and socially connected. We’re also looking forward to meeting more people from across the local area, as community links are such an important part of helping our customers feel truly at home.”
Dave Shaw, Director at Sanctuary Supported Living, added: “Blackberry Court represents our commitment to creating vibrant, inclusive homes where people can thrive. With excellent facilities, dedicated care, and a strong sense of community, residents can enjoy their independence and feel confident about having our support to live the life they want.”
