A group of Telford residents have been crocheting woollen ‘worry worms’ in a creative community act of kindness to bring smiles and joy to strangers in the local area.

Residents from Sanctuary Supported Living’s Rose Manor, who are part of a ‘knit and natter’ club, were discussing the worries of the world when they decided to dedicate their time to helping people alleviate stress from their life – by making the cute, crochet creatures.

When the worry worms are ready, they are fixed to a laminated message and hidden around various locations in the local community for people to take home and cherish.

Resident knitter, Rita Wycherley, said: “Random acts of kindness go a really long way, and this is a very small act that we hope is making a big difference in peoples’ lives. We should take every opportunity possible to make another person smile. And it makes us feel good too! In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”

Wellbeing and Inclusion Assistant, Kirsty Lees, added: “Stress Awareness Month is just around the corner, and this year’s theme is community. There’s a lot going on in the world at the moment, and the ‘knit and natter’ ladies were keen to show that they care. As a Wellbeing and Inclusion assistant, I know all too well that a lack of support can cause loneliness and isolation, which can impact mental health and wellbeing. It’s my job to promote inclusion, and I’m chuffed that our kind-hearted residents are carrying the baton forward, and making people smile.”
