Sanctuary Supported Living

Sanctuary Supported Living has been recognised in the Care Employer category of the Great British Care Awards

The teams at Sanctuary Supported Living’s Romanby Crescent and Victoria Road are celebrating being shortlisted in the regional finals of the Great British Care Awards.

Romanby Crescent, in Eston, provides supported housing for adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs, while Victoria Road in Hartlepool offers accommodation and support for young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Both have been shortlisted in the North East region of the Great British Care Awards 2021, in the Housing With Care award and the Putting People First/Personalisation award respectively.

The Romanby Crescent team were nominated in recognition of their transformative work with a young adult referred to them during lockdown. She had been evicted from her previous accommodation due to her extremely complex needs.

Despite initially refusing to engage with staff, they persevered and built a trusting relationship, working with her to create a personalised care plan which enabled her to set her own life goals. After ten months of dedicated care and support, she has made friends, enjoys taking part in activities and is an active member of her local community.

The Victoria Road team were nominated for their work with helping vulnerable residents increase their confidence and develop essential life skills, through fun activities such as their annual ‘Come Dine With Me’ competition, which sees staff support residents to plan, shop and cook their chosen menu.

"By supporting our teams to be their best, the people we support and care for in our services can be their best"

They are so committed to ensuring the best outcomes for residents every day, whatever their circumstances, and these award nominations go some way towards recognising that.”

The award winners will be announced at the North East regional final, which is taking place on Wednesday 24 November 2021 at the Grand Hotel in Gosforth.
