Sanctuary Supported Living
Sanctuary Supported Living, a national provider of supported housing for vulnerable people, including those with learning and physical disabilities, has been shortlisted in six categories at the national Learning Disability and Autism Awards 2021.
The provider, which offers a range of accommodation with personalised care and support, has been named as a finalist in The Employer Award category, which celebrates exceptional employers, who are committed to their employees delivering an excellent service of high-quality care to the people they support. Sanctuary Supported Living has also been named as a finalist in the Supported Housing category, which celebrates innovative approaches and good practice in delivering a range of housing options for people with learning disabilities and autism. In addition, four of Sanctuary Supported Living’s learning disability services have been shortlisted for their achievements in providing outstanding care and support to residents.
The team at Nickleby Road, a supported housing service in Chelmsford, have been shortlisted for The Great Autism Practice Award, in recognition of the way their work increases happiness and wellbeing for their residents who have autism. The Nickleby Road team have had a lot to celebrate lately, as they were also recently named as winner of the Supported Housing with Care Award at the national Great British Care Awards 2020-21.
Staff at Old Milton Road, which provides supported housing with CQC-registered care in New Milton, were shortlisted in The Breaking Down Barriers Award category, which celebrates an organisation which works to ensure people with learning disabilities and autism get clear information and are able to contribute their views and experiences. The service was nominated in recognition of its innovative approach to explaining some of the changes brought about by Covid-19, through the use of social distancing penguins, which residents named Smiley and Wavy. The penguin characters became so popular that they even had their own YouTube channel and Twitter feed, helping to spread their ‘smile and wave’ social distancing message to others with learning disabilities.
Romanby Crescent, a supported housing with care service in Eston, was named as a finalist in The Positive Behaviour Support Award category, for the team’s hard work and dedication to meeting the individual needs of the residents they support, no matter the challenges or circumstances, to enhance people with learning disabilities’ quality of life.
The team at Skelton Court, a CQC-registered residential care home for people with learning disabilities and complex needs in Leicester, was shortlisted in the Supporting Older People with Learning Disabilities Award. They were recognised for the way they passionately promote dignity and respect, and give residents access to the same opportunities as anyone else.
The judging of the Learning Disability and Autism Awards will take place virtually on Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 September, with the overall winners being announced at the awards ceremony, which will be held at Birmingham ICC on Friday 29 October.
