Seven finalists for Sanctuary Supported Living

Sanctuary Supported Living, which provides supported housing, supported housing with care, and residential care and nursing homes for vulnerable people - including those with learning and physical disabilities - has been shortlisted in seven categories at The National Learning Disability and Autism Awards 2022, which aims to pay tribute to those who excel in providing quality care.

The national provider has secured a double shortlist in two categories: The Employer Award, which celebrates exceptional employers who are committed to their employees delivering an excellent service of high-quality care to the people they support, and The Supported Housing Award which celebrates innovative approaches and good practice in delivering a range of housing options for people with learning disabilities and autism.

In addition, five of Sanctuary Supported Living’s learning disability services have been shortlisted in recognition of their commitment to providing excellent care and support:

The Award for Outstanding Contribution – Joanne Hardwick at Corner House

Local Service Manager, Joanne, who manages CQC rated ‘Outstanding’ residential care home Corner House, has been shortlisted for The Award for Outstanding Contribution, in honour of her 30 years of exemplary work in making a difference to the lives of people with a learning disability and autism.  Joanne was nominated for her passion and dedication to making sure everyone has the best opportunities to lead fulfilling lives.

The Breaking Down Barriers Award – Hazel Court

Staff at Hazel Court, which provides long-term supported housing with care in Worcester, have been shortlisted in The Breaking Down Barriers Award category, which celebrates their hard work in making sure residents – whose communication barriers include impacted speech from a brain injury, selective mutism, and nonverbal behaviour - get clear information, and are able to contribute their views and experiences. The team was nominated in recognition of their approach to co-create solutions with residents so they could communicate their needs and live as independently as possible.

The Support Worker Award – Roberto Coello at Lawrence Road

Deputy Local Service Manager, Roberto, who helps to manage the day-to-day running of Lawrence Road, which provides long-term supported housing with care in London, is a contender for The Support Worker Award, and his crucial role in providing high quality support for people with a learning disability and autism. Roberto has worked for Sanctuary Supported Living for twelve years and has consistently demonstrated a person-centred approach to create positive experiences for residents, making a huge difference to their lives.

The Supporting People with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities Award – Oleander House

The team at Oleander House has been named as a finalist for The Supporting People with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities Award, for their commitment to providing long-term supported housing for adults in Telford, who face disproportionate challenges in life, due to their profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD). Oleander House’s award nomination recognises their innovative and inspiring practise that achieves positive outcomes for residents with PMLD, who are wholly in charge of their support - from the selection and recruitment of staff, to how they play an active role within their community.

Positive Behaviour Support Award – Sycamore Court

Sycamore Court, a supported housing with care service in Leicester, are through to the finals in The Positive Behaviour Support Award category, for the team’s hard work and dedication to meeting the individual needs of the residents they support, no matter the challenges or circumstances, to enhance the quality of life for people with learning disabilities.

Organised by Care Talk, the judging of The National Learning Disability and Autism Awards will take place virtually on Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 June, with the overall winners being announced at the celebratory gala event, which will be held at The Birmingham ICC on Friday 8 July.
