Residents at a learning disability service in Worcester have completed an inspiring month-long walking challenge, raising more than £635 for the British Heart Foundation.

Throughout February, residents at Sanctuary Supported Living’s Hazel Court, which provides care and support for adults aged 18 to 65 with a range of learning disabilities, walked a combined 28 miles as part of the charity’s Walk for Hearts campaign.

Leading the effort were two residents, Tim and Megan, who took on the challenge of walking one mile each day around the service, supported by staff and their families. Despite winter weather and the occasional tough day, they remained determined, encouraging one another and celebrating each milestone along the way.

Local Service Manager, Sara Brown praised their dedication, saying: “We are extremely proud of Tim and Megan, and the amount of money they’ve raised for a wonderful cause.”

Beyond fundraising, the challenge had a positive impact on residents’ wellbeing. Residents reported feeling more energised, experienced improved moods, and even sleeping better as a result of their daily walks. The experience has strengthened their commitment to staying active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

To mark their achievement, Tim and Megan each received an exclusive gold medal from the British Heart Foundation in recognition of their hard work.

Brooke Hawkins, Fundraising Manager at the British Heart Foundation in Worcester, said: “It’s been incredibly inspiring to see the commitment and determination shown by everyone at Hazel Court. Tim and Megan’s enthusiasm really captures what Walk for Hearts is all about – supporting your own heart health while helping to fund lifesaving research. Every mile they walked will help us continue our work to beat heartbreak caused by heart and circulatory disease, and we’re so grateful for their brilliant support.”
