Supported housing services in Chester, Runcorn, and Salford have come together this festive season to launch a heartwarming initiative that highlights the power of community and the impact of small acts of kindness.

Sanctuary Supported Living’s Woodlea Avenue, Gleneagles Close, and Halton Road, which provides support for adults with a range of learning disabilities, collaborated with Stanley Grove in Salford - another Sanctuary Supported Living service providing accommodation and support for individuals experiencing homelessness - to launch a Christmas donation drive.

In a heartwarming display of generosity, residents from Woodlea Avenue, Halton Road, and Gleneagles Close were supported by staff to hand-selected gifts to donate to residents at Stanley Grove, ensuring that people who may not otherwise be able to afford festive treats have a present to open on Christmas Day.

"It wasn’t just about giving gifts, but about showing we care."

Local Service Manager, Nicole Schofield

The gifts included chocolate, toiletries, and other thoughtful surprises. Each was carefully wrapped, with ribbons and tags added to make them extra special. Local Service Manager, Nicole Schofield, made the 30-mile journey to Salford to hand-deliver the gifts, ensuring they arrived in time to spread Christmas cheer.

Nicole said: “The residents were so excited to be part of something that made a tangible difference. This was a resident-led initiative, with everyone putting in the effort. It wasn’t just about giving gifts, but about showing we care about other people in our local community and building personal connections. It’s been an opportunity for our residents to engage with people in different circumstances and experience the joy that comes from giving and receiving, regardless of where you live or your background.”

In return, Stanley Grove residents plan to send thank-you cards in the New Year, reaffirming links between the three groups. For each of the services, the exchange has served as a powerful reminder of the strength found in community and the importance of reaching out to others.

Local Service Manager, John Cluskey, said: “We’re so grateful for the gifts. The kindness shown by residents is truly inspiring, and a shining example of how even the smallest gestures can have a big impact on others. The holidays can be tough for many of the people we support, so to see this act of kindness means a lot.”
