People with learning disabilities are set to benefit from new supported housing, as work begins on 12 new flats in Attleborough.
Oak Lodge and Laurea House is a new supported living service developed in partnership between Norfolk County Council and Sanctuary Supported Living.
The project has been made possible thanks in part to a Norfolk County Council capital grant of £120k and includes the provision of technology enabled services to help people live independently.
Sanctuary Supported Living is one of the country’s leading housing and care providers and has committed more than £1.2m into the redevelopment.
Known as Oak Lodge and Laurea House, the new supported living services will provide housing for 12 residents in eight fully en-suite rooms and four self-contained one-bedroomed flats.
Residents of Oak Lodge will share a large kitchen, dining room, lounge and laundry facilities. The ground floor of Oak Lodge has been designed to be fully accessible for people with mobility support needs including a specially adapted kitchen and infrastructure for overhead track hoisting facilities.
One-bedroom flats at Laurea House provide the opportunity for residents to live even more independently.
Personalised care and support will be in place to help people live as independently as possible and build skills to enable them to move on to increased independent living in the future. The project is due for completion in Autumn 2022.

Cllr Bill Borrett, Norfolk County Council Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said: “People tell us that this type of specialist supported housing improves their lives because it focuses on independence and community living. As a result, Norfolk County Council is investing £18m in supported living schemes across the county, enabling local people with care and support needs to live independently in their own homes.”

This is the first of a number of new services we are developing in partnership with Norfolk County Council in the coming months. The site was formerly used for homelessness accommodation which we acquired in April 2020 and we’re delighted to invest and provide suitable, high-quality housing so that people with learning disabilities can live their best life, as independently as possible.”
